Eva Jinek wanted to know in her talk show of Won Yip how Brad Pitt reacted when the star actor heard that the catering tycoon had stolen the most beautiful, most expensive penthouse in the Netherlands – in the Pontsteiger – right in front of him. “Who is Brad Pitt? Yip replied with a straight face.

The high-profile fragment can be seen in King on Dam Squarean hour and a half 2Doc by director Sarah Vos and cameraman Sander Snoep. The two are given ample opportunity by Won Yip, who tells extensively about his life and background.

He tells about his father, who sucked on a stone from hunger in China, and ended up in Amsterdam with one British pound and two American dollars in his pocket. He died when Yip was 18. Yip was the only one who had a job – he was behind the bar at the age of 16 – and had to promise his father to take care of the family. So it is not very strange that Yip cannot understand that his stepdaughter will not work if she has a hundred euros: ‘You can make it 200 euros?!’

Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital

It’s about his mother, who never got over her husband’s death. His sister, who plays an important role in the Yip Group, speaks extensively, as does his partner, ‘province girl’ Heleen Jeremiasse, with whom he will live together for the first time in the Pontsteiger after a relationship of 17 years.

When Yip comes to take a look at his fully styled apartment, she wants to know what he thinks of the new chairs. “He hasn’t seen any of it yet, from what I’ve picked out,” she tells one of the decorators. “I did see the bill, honey,” he replies. “Yes, you are more of that,” she replies.

There are more entertaining scenes (we often see Yip counting money), but it is also a bit strange that the cancer diagnosis, which he receives in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital, hardly plays a role (‘it is what it is). is’) and that the consequences of corona for the 436 people he employs also remain uncertain. While Yip says: “That will have consequences. Not much, not mega, it will be huge.”
