In addition to Stan F. and main suspect Sanil B., one third of the eight convicted Hilversum suspects of nightlife violence in Mallorca have decided to appeal: Daan van S. was sentenced to 30 months in prison, six of which were suspended. He will challenge that verdict, his lawyer Harriët de Kroon said.

The appeal has yet to be filed. You can do that until next Friday.

Daan was sentenced to 18 months in prison, six of which were conditionally demanded for attempted manslaughter and open violence. Daan was one of the young men for whom the judge handed down a heavier sentence than had been demanded: his sentence was extended by a year at 30 months. “That penalty is simply too high for participating in two brawls,” De Kroon explains briefly.

Like four other suspects sentenced to prison, he must immediately serve his sentence. So he is currently in custody. Daan van S. was not on trial for Carlo’s death, but for other forms of violence.

The main suspect has already appealed

Last Friday, eight suspects in the case of nightlife violence in Mallorca in July 2021 – in which 27-year-old Carlo Heuvelman died and several other people were injured – were sentenced. Sanil B. received the highest sentence: seven years in prison for the manslaughter of Carlo and the attempted manslaughter of two other victims. Sanil’s lawyer announced on Monday that he would appeal.

Four other suspects were sentenced to 30 months in prison. For two suspects this was somewhat of a relief because they were also on trial for Carlo’s death, but were not convicted for it. So they got 30 months for other forms of violence. Three other suspects received lesser sentences. Of those three, Stan F. (twelve months in prison) decided almost immediately that he would appeal.
