PT considers supporting Lira in exchange for renegotiation, says Paulo Teixeira

Secretary General of the PT, Deputy Paulo Teixeira said in an interview with Power360 that the party can support the re-election of Arthur Lira (PP-AL) as mayor, if congressional procedures are renegotiated.

“For us, the question is not who the name is, if it can be it, but the procedures”, he said. Teixeira cited rapporteur amendments as a practice to be rediscussed, which remove investment capacity from the government and transfer it to congressmen.

There is an agreement under construction for the re-election of Arthur Lira. The relationship between the deputy and the PT has been strengthening since the visit of the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), to Brasília, in early November.

Lira was one of the main allies of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who was opposed by the PT in the last 2 years. Lula, however, has already indicated that he will not put his government to work against the re-election of Lira, whose re-election is getting closer.

The petistas, however, want to change the rapporteur’s amendments. The current president of the Chamber is the main operator of the allocation system.
