Among the possible detainees after the riot on the 8th, in Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília and who, for Bolsonaristas, could be being mistreated (thesis widely contradicted by press coverage), “Dona Fátima”, grandma breaks -everything, has a criminal record that contrasts with the alleged defense of good customs and has not even been arrested. Ironically, she ended up being a victim of fake news.

Maria de Fátima Mendonça Jacinto Souza, 67 years old, theoretically for Bolsonarist politicians and influencers is yet another elderly woman who could have been arbitrarily arrested for being present in Brasília during the chaos promoted by terrorists last Sunday.

She, however, in addition to not appearing on the released list of detainees who went to the penitentiary known as Colmeia, has an interesting history to say the least. The good citizen, defender of good customs and the family, registers conviction for drug trafficking involving a minor at the door of her residence in the municipality of Tubarão (SC) and complaints for falsification of documents and embezzlement.

Maria de Fátima appears among Bolsonaristas in videos made by vandals, hailed for being “here breaking everything”, and – according to herself – having defecated in the vandalized environment. Nine years ago, the elderly woman was arrested in the early hours of January 14, 2014 by Military Police officers who were carrying out rounds in her neighborhood, in an area of “intense drug trade” in her city.

In the images produced by its partners, it is not possible to identify precisely whether the riot was in Congress, in the Planalto or in the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The only hint comes from the mouth of Maria de Fátima herself: “It’s war! Let’s get Xandão now”, referring to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Arrest in flagrante delicto and appeal denied on the merits

Approached by the PMs after having called and assisted a number of drug users, she even blamed a teenager. In the arrest report and subsequent conviction, he was confirmed as her partner in crime. Twenty-seven crack stones were seized at the time.

Maria de Fátima was imprisoned in the Tubarão women’s penitentiary during the process. She even tried to appeal, but was only partially successful.

The Court of Justice of Santa Catarina (TJSC) ended up reducing the initial sentence of four years, six months and thirteen days of imprisonment in a semi-open regime to three years, ten months and twenty days of imprisonment in an initial open regime.

The previous regime was replaced “by two restrictions on rights”, the ban on attending “nightclubs, bars, dance clubs, dances and the like” and the provision of community services.

The fines imposed on Maria de Fátima were also reduced from 454 fine days to 388 fine days. According to the Brazilian Penal Code, a day-fine corresponds to one-third of the minimum wage in effect at the time the crime occurred. The maximum that can be applied is five times the value of the minimum wage at the time.

Rapporteur of the case, Judge Rodrigo Collaço had his vote unanimously approved by the other members of the 4th Criminal Chamber of the TJSC.

He emphasized that the origin of the crime was judged, increased by the use of a minor, and that the reduction of the sentence was given to the minimum level “because it is crack – a drug with a high hallucinogenic power, addictive and extremely harmful to the environment. Social”.

Victimism and refuge from grandma

Among the allegations made in the appeal, Maria de Fátima said that she suffered from depression and this was the reason for sweeping the front of her residence every night.

In the opinion of the judges, the narrative “by itself” did not seem credible due to a series of contradictions. Among them, according to the file, the fact that the convict was in front of her residence at 3 am to sweep on a rainy day.

In the vote that sealed Maria de Fátima’s conviction at the TJSC, there is still information that it was common for suspects of drug trafficking to take refuge “inside the defendant’s residence when they noticed the police approach”.

This data was a result of the testimonies of the PMs who participated in the arrest of Maria de Fátima.

In the approved vote of condemnation, a manifestation is, in general, very dear to Bolsonarism: “the testimony of police officers responsible for the arrest in flagrante delicto of the accused constitutes suitable evidence to support the condemnatory edict, especially when corroborated in court, within the scope of the due process of law”.

From denounced by the MPSC to the victim of fake news

The year 2014 was heavy for today’s Bolsonarist. On November 6, the Public Ministry of Santa Catarina (MPSC) filed a criminal complaint against her for falsifying a public document, crimes against the Public Faith and for fraud and crimes against property.

In November 2021, the process that Extra Classe did not have access to in full was completed for the court decision.

Ironically inserted in a medium that is a receptacle and transmitter of false news, Maria de Fátima ended up being yet another victim of lies that circulate on the internet.

On the networks, videos that call her Vovó do Barro talk about her alleged arrest in the Federal District (DF), despite her name not being on the list released this Wednesday, 11, by the Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration of the DF (Seape /DF).

Maria de Fátima was also awarded R$30,000, which she received as a pension for the death of an alleged military husband and a disability pension from the National Social Security Institute (INSS).

According to Extra Classe’s investigation, she does not have any type of INSS retirement. Neither for disability nor for contribution time. The only action found at the institute was a request for Sickness Assistance, which was closed in 2021 due to failure to comply with the requirement, a request to complement your documents or information.

So far, no information regarding the alleged pension has been identified in the three institutions that make up the Armed Forces of Brazil.
