Is there still a future for Stipe Perica at Standard?

To this day, Standard-Liège supporters still have nightmares about the 2021-2022 season. Their club then had a shit season and the supporters saw how many club icons had completely faded away under the many disappointing results. The board of the Rouches was blamed and decided last summer to attract fresh blood, including a striker with a nose for goals. They came out Stipe Pericaa 27-year-old Croatian striker who had previously made waves in the Jupiler Pro League.

Perica was already seen on the Belgian football fields in the 2019-2020 season in a jersey from Mouscron. In the fall of 2019, he found his way to the goal six times in just four weeks and that attracted the attention of many scouts. The Croatian managed to score a total of eight times for Mouscron, in just sixteen games. The following season, the Perica made the switch to the English Watford in the Championship. However, he completely fell through the ice with only one goal and then took a step back, towards Israel where Maccabi Tel Aviv houses.

Things went well for the Croat again Israel. He scored 17 goals in 46 games and had become very important in a short time. The board of the Rouches had of course taken note of this and decided to promptly give Perica a contract this summer. After all, the Liège boardroom thought they had found their goal getter.

Too little mobility?

But the Liège supporters were not so convinced. After all, they quickly realized that Perica lacks the necessary mobility, speed and flexibility to play in the game system of coach Ronny Deila to render and immediately grabbed their hair. Apart from two great goals against Zulte WaregemPerica has not yet made a solid impression and that makes Standard supporters very sad.

They primarily point to the passive role Perica takes on every Standard attack. Secondly, the supporters refer to how easy he sometimes makes it on an opponent’s defense. Fans of Perica rightly note that the Croat relies more on certain moments and is not a real target striker. He can hardly function in a system with a single striker, but then the game system of the Rouches will reportedly have to be adjusted…

Disappointing statistics

To date, Stipe Perica has only three goals made in fourteen JPL matches and that is unworthy of a striker. He scored twice against Zulte Waregem (0-3) in October and also managed to score the equalizer against Sint-Truiden (1-1) at the beginning of January, so that Standard owes a few points to the man. The Rouches are currently on a sixth Place in the Jupiler Pro League and aim for the Champions’ playoffs. However, to achieve that, Stipe Perica will have to score a lot more.
