Secret documents have been found in the home of former US Vice President Mike Pence, reports news channel CNN. Republican Pence was President Donald Trump’s right-hand man from 2017 to 2021.
It would concern about ten documents, which were found by Pence’s lawyer. The FBI and the US Department of Justice have launched an investigation into how the documents ended up in Pence’s private home.
According to sources, Pence had asked his attorney to search several boxes of documents for potentially classified copies. It is still unclear what is in the documents.
Pence may have taken action after a few dozen secret documents were also found in the office and home of current president Joe Biden in recent weeks. They date from the period (2009-2017) that Biden was Vice President of the US. Biden himself also reported the discovery of the documents.
About 300 secret files were found in the buildings of former President Donald Trump during raids by the FBI last year. The Justice Department is investigating the matter.
Trump allegedly deliberately took these documents to Florida from Washington after his presidency. According to two former White House aides, Trump would have wanted to use the documents to “put pressure on his political opponents.”
