Official: Polestar 2 facelift (2024) + price Belgium

The Polestar 2, which was the world’s first car in the world with Android Automotive (not to be confused with Android Auto) when it was introduced in 2019, passed the 100,000 sales mark by the end of 2022.

For model year 2024, the Swedish subsidiary brand of the Chinese Geely is giving its bestseller a refresh that mainly has subcutaneous consequences. On the outside, the facelifted Polestar 2 can only be recognized by its reworked muzzle, reminiscent of that of the pole star 3.

SmartZone

Indeed, the fake radiator grille that originally sat between the headlights of the Polestar 2 is being replaced by the SmartZone introduced on the brand’s new SUV. It houses the cameras and radars necessary for the various rear security systems, of which more are now standard (as is an inductive charger for compatible smartphones).

In addition, the twenty-inch wheels made of forged aluminum that are included in the Performance Pack are those of the Polestar 3. For the rest, Polestar apparently thinks that the 2 is still sufficiently fresh, because there are no further external changes to report.

Exit FWD and more power

However, the most important novelties can be found under the skin. Perhaps most striking is that the single engine of the Single Motor versions is now located in the back instead of the front and thus drives the rear instead of the front wheels, which should provide a more lively handling.
The engine in question has been newly developed together with its inverter and produces 299 hp (220 kW) and 490 Nm, compared to 231 hp and 330 Nm for that of the front-wheel drive Polestar 2 Single Motor. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is shortened by no less than 1.2 seconds, to 6.2 seconds.

But the engines of the Dual Motor versions were also overhauled, resulting in a total power of 421 hp and 740 Nm (compared to 408 hp and 660 Nm). Accelerating from standstill to 100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds here.
For the Dual Motor with Performance Pack, the power remains unchanged (476 hp), and therefore its sprint time of 4.2 seconds. However, in the Dual Motor versions, more emphasis was placed on the rear engine, to increase the sensations of a rear-wheel drive car.

More driving range, faster charging

The Polestar 2 also gets other lithium-ion batteries. The Long Range versions now have a battery pack consisting of 27 modules from supplier CATL with a capacity of 82 kWh (instead of 78), while the batteries of the Standard Range versions are supplied by LG Chem, have 24 modules and a capacity offering 69 kWh (instead of 64).

This naturally has a positive effect on the driving range: the Long Range Dual Motor makes the greatest gains in this area and, according to the WLTP cycle, will now reach 592 km (+ 105 km). This is now 518 km (+40) for the Standard Range Single Motor and 635 km (+84) for the Long Range Single Motor. Thanks to the improved composition of the cells, the CO2emissions during the production of the batteries will drop significantly.
