According to Trump, the arrest would be part of the investigation into hush money paid to porn actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. He claimed to have had an affair with the former president fifteen years ago. Trump lawyer Michael Cohen paid Clifford $130,000 two weeks before the November 2016 presidential election to keep the story quiet.
According to Cohen, the former president had asked him to do so. However, the payment was never reflected in the Trump campaign’s books. Cohen eventually went to jail for violating campaign finance laws, tax evasion and perjury.
Trump allegedly obtained the information through a leak from prosecutors in New York. “The leading Republican presidential nominee and former president will be arrested next Tuesday,” he writes. “Protest and retake our nation!”
Earlier this month, prosecutors gave Trump the opportunity to testify before a jury in the investigation. If an indictment is filed, Trump could become the first ever former US president to be indicted.
Trump promptly received a statement of support from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. He too called the Americans to revolt: “Retake your country, Americans! To battle!” he wrote on his Telegram account on Saturday. Whether the 57-year-old politician meant it remained unclear. Medvedev has stood out several times in recent months with extremely sharp and sometimes bizarre attacks to the West. Observers suspect that the once liberal politician wants to adopt the image of a hardliner for a possible succession to Vladimir Putin.
‘American dream is dead’
Our nation is now third world and dying. “The American dream is dead. The radical left anarchists have stolen our presidential elections and thus the heart of our country. American patriots are arrested and held captive like animals, while criminals and left-wing thugs are allowed to roam the streets freely. They kill and burn without retaliation. Millions pour through our open borders, many from prisons and mental institutions. Crime and inflation are destroying our way of life.”
Trump previously called the investigation “a political witch hunt” aimed at “taking down the leading Republican party nominee.”
The office of New York Attorney General Alvin Bragg has not yet commented on Trump’s allegations. Trump previously denounced that Bragg “just hates him”.
Storming Capitol
The last time Trump called on his supporters to “fight like hell,” thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington DC on Jan. 6, 2021. Inside, MPs were ratifying Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
Nine people were killed in and after the storm, including officers who later committed suicide. More than a thousand rioters have been arrested and hundreds have been charged.
