The Saints Mafiosos de Newark premieres today on television in Portugal

The origin story of the most iconic mobster on television, Tony Soprano, arrives today on TVCine Channels. Exploring the events that underpinned the critically acclaimed series The Sopranos, the prequel Newark Mafioso Saints reveals Tony’s first steps and the influence his family – especially his uncle, Dickie Moltisanti – had on him, making him the most feared mob boss in America.

With Alessandro Nivola, Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini’s son, Michael, in the main roles, Os Santos Mafiosos de Newark premieres today, March 18, Saturday, at 9:30 pm, exclusively on TVCine Top.

In Newark’s Holy Mobsters, we find young Anthony Soprano growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, as rival gangsters begin to challenge the all-powerful DiMeo family and the city is corroded by racial injustice. Caught in these changing times is the uncle Anthony idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, whose influence will help the impressionable teenager become the feared mob boss we later come to know: Tony Soprano. In the midst of the violent Newark riots of 1967 and a destructive gang war, Uncle Dickie initiates Tony into the mob arts, ushering in a new era of crime.

Written and produced by David Chase, creator of The Sopranos, The Newark Mobsters features an all-star cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Corey Stoll, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga and Ray Liotta in one of his latest films. Michael Gandolfini touchingly embodies the young Tony Soprano, a role that would catapult his late father to worldwide stardom.
