Assassination of a Palestinian engineer in Malaysia

This is not the first time that the Mossad has targeted Palestinians in Malaysia, but two unknown gunmen had previously assassinated Palestinian engineer Fadi Al-Batsh – who holds a doctorate in electronic engineering – for the Israeli foreign intelligence service (Mossad) in Malaysia in 2018.

According to the city’s police chief, Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazem, “Al-Batsh” was on his way to a mosque next to his residence in the Gombak district, north of the capital, when the attackers shot him.

The police chief also indicated that the two assailants targeted “Al-Batsh” with ten bullets, four of which hit him, killing him instantly, noting that investigations are still ongoing in the case.

Also, at the beginning of 2022, the Ministry of Interior and National Security, run by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, revealed the arrest of an alleged perpetrator of the “Al-Batsh” assassination.

Investigation into the circumstances of the assassination of “Al-Batsh”

In an official statement at the time, the ministry’s spokesman, Iyad al-Bazm, said that through the ongoing investigations with the Internal Security Agency, “confessions of one of the detainees indicate his involvement, commissioned by the Israeli Mossad, to participate in the assassination of Martyr al-Batsh.”

Dr. Fadi Al-Batsh (35 years old) was working as a lecturer at a private Malaysian university. He was originally from Jabalia in the Gaza Strip. He is married and has three children.

Al-Batsh is also a scientist specializing in electrical engineering, and he has received a number of scientific awards, most notably the Malaysian “Khazana” award in 2016 as the first Arab to be crowned. During his study trip, “Al-Batsh” published a number of scientific research papers, and participated in international conferences in Japan, Britain, Finland and others.

While the “Al-Batsh” family accused the Mossad of being behind the assassination of her son, the family demanded that the Malaysian authorities conduct an urgent investigation to uncover those involved in the assassination before they managed to escape.
