Dr. Yousry Rostom, Professor and Head of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at Alexandria University, revealed, during the department’s conference today at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, that liver cancer can be treated using targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and the use of fast-curve radiotherapy.

For his part, Professor Philip Portman from Belgium and former president of the European Society of Radiotherapy and the European Society of Cancer said that radiotherapy has developed, explaining that there is a new technique called “radiation flash” for the treatment of breast cancer, and it is a new technology that is still under experiment, and works to focus radiation in a way It is fast on cancer like a flash, and it was called radioactive flash because it is a technology like a camera flash, the dose is given very quickly without complications or side effects.

He said that flash radiotherapy is a new technology and it is still under experiment, and it is in the framework of pre-clinical research, and it is promising and achieves great effectiveness in treatment.

He explained that what is new in the radiotherapy currently available is giving radiotherapy directed at the highest dose, without side effects, and magnetic resonance imaging is used to determine the size of the tumor, stressing that multiple treatments are used with each other through a team and different specializations to achieve greater effectiveness.

Dr. Maher Suleiman, Assistant Professor of Oncology, and Secretary-General of the Conference of the Oncology Department of Alexandria Medicine, which is currently being held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stated that the silver day of the 25th Conference of the Oncology Department was celebrated, and we were keen to continue even during the Corona crisis, explaining that the organizing committee was determined to hold it in the Library of Alexandria. Alexandria is important in spreading science and training young doctors to diagnose MRI.

He stressed that the conference discussed everything related to tumors, from diagnosis, treatment and surgery to feeding and nursing tumors.

He added that the conference reviewed 150 lectures within 3 days, and we have a large number of experts from Egypt, and more than 30 professors from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan and European universities, the most famous of whom is Professor Philip Portman from Belgium, former president of the European Cancer Society, who has published more than 400 papers. In radiation therapy, two experts from France, an expert from Britain, Switzerland, Poland, and Dr. Ikola from Italy and Greece, explaining that they talked about the latest science in the field of radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

It is noteworthy that the conference was attended by Dr. Hamdi Abdel-Azim, Head of the Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, Dr. Hisham El-Ghazaly, Professor of Oncology at Ain Shams Medicine, member of the Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, and a large number of professors of oncology from Egyptian universities.
