In tribute to Roger Pic, great photographer, director and copyright activist, the Civil Society of Multimedia Authors (Scam) has been rewarding, for thirty years, an artist who documents reality, while questioning humanity. The aim is to support the work of emerging authors whose career deserves greater recognition. By winning this coronation, Baudouin Mouanda becomes the first African and the first Congolese to join the list of talented winners of this international photographic competition. One more trophy in addition to the twenty-three already amassed internationally, namely in France, Spain, England, China, Japan, etc.
” I am very proud that the Roger-Pic de la Scam prize is awarded this year to the African photographer, of whom I am the first on the continent, of Congolese origin, to win it. I am very happy that the Congo, through photography, manages to attract attention by sensitizing the populations on a natural phenomenon that Africa knows. Hence, I will not fail to thank the members of the jury for their interest in my Ciel de Saison project, which to date has won its third distinction. “, rejoiced the Congolese artist.
This well-deserved victory, Baudouin Mouanda owes it to his creativity and his sensitivity around a capital theme. Indeed, floods are common in the world and more particularly in Africa; and they are not the result of chance, but rather of certain human actions on the environment.
” Ciel de saison was born from the bad weather that Africa has experienced in recent years, due to climate change. These photographs remind everyone of the need to preserve and respect the environment, under penalty of reprisals from climate change. “, explained Baudouin Mouanda.
As he points out, this project was made possible thanks to its cultural space Classpro_Culture, which is still under construction. ” This, with the help of the inhabitants who experienced the floods and who were kind enough to take up my call. Remembering the tireless commitment of the President of the Republic Denis Sassou N’Guesso on climate change, it was important for me to support this action for the good of the population. “.
Note that the Congolese photographer, Baudouin Mouanda, will officially receive his prize on October 13, in France. To this end, he will benefit from an exhibition of his photographs, produced entirely by the Scam, and an envelope of 5,000 euros. In the meantime, he is expected on September 17, still in France, to present his work at the La Gacilly festival. Alongside this, Baudouin is hard at work on a new photographic project that deals with the question of water and it should be called “La sudeur du faucet”; this, at the same time as he fights to finalize the construction sites of the cultural space Classpro_Culture, established in the eighth district of Brazzaville.
