Summer is coming to an end and so are the school holidays. Only two days left before primary, middle and high school students return to class and reopen their notebooks, as part of the start of the school year scheduled for Monday, September 5. Reminder of the key dates of the 2022-2023 school calendar.

Less than two days separate us from the start of the school year, scheduled for September 5 for preschool, primary, secondary and specialized technician classes. Non-formal education classes will start on October 3.

Unlike the two previous back-to-school periods marked by the health crisis, this year’s is taking place at a time when we are witnessing a continuous improvement in all epidemiological indicators. It is thus characterized by a return to the face-to-face.

In addition to the return to primary schools, colleges and high schools, both public and private, from Monday September 5, the baccalaureate exams for the normal cycle are scheduled from May 22 to 27, 2023 and the catch-up sessions from May 19, 2023. to June 24, 2023.

While the last day of classes is scheduled for mid-July 2023, several activities such as academic support sessions and extracurricular activities may continue until the end of July 2023.

A new school year under the sign of reform
The strategic references for the reform of the education system aim to achieve three objectives, namely to make education compulsory, to ensure learning and to promote openness. Supervision thus aims to reduce the school dropout rate by a third (more than 300,000 children and young people leave school each year) and to improve the quality of achievements and learning at school.

It is also a question of increasing the rate of acquisition of basic skills by learners to two-thirds, instead of one-third currently.

The new education reform roadmap also aims to generalize quality primary education, allowing students to continue and complete their compulsory education and to set up quality continuing education aimed at professional advancement. teachers with the support of the inspection body and the promotion of the efforts of educational managers and the educational body.

A support mechanism for textbook publishers activated
To ensure the stability of textbook prices for the start of the 2022 school year, the government has granted financial support of 105 million dirhams to publishers to compensate for the increase in the price of raw materials.

This financial support, the disbursement of which is the responsibility of the Compensation Fund, has been set at 25% of the sale price, after a study by the Ministry of the file of each publisher according to the number of textbooks printed and distributed in 2022. .

The purpose of this decision is to ensure the sufficient availability of textbooks in good time for the start of the 2022-2023 school year, and to avoid any increase in their prices, in the wake of the government’s efforts to preserve the purchasing power of families.

Back to school under the sign of inflation
Much to the chagrin of parents, school supplies are caught in the inflationary spiral. Heads of households crowd into stores to finish shopping for textbooks, books, notebooks, pens, etc. And the bill is salty.

Apart from textbooks programmed in public education, which are subsidized, everything else has seen price increases ranging from 40% to 110%.
