It was his son Guillaume Sibé, 27, who took up the torch, and the presidency of this Bordeaux association. He is supported by his father’s friends, in particular Jean-Luc Sansac, at the head of the agency Le Paradis c’est ici. “Originally, my father organized this race with some friends, and there were about sixty children at the start of the race, sponsored by companies. But the event has grown over the years, with sums of money at stake, we had to professionalize ourselves”, sums up Guillaume Sibé.
100,000 euros raised
The principle of this race? It is free for children, the money is collected thanks to partners, and donated to two Girondin associations, one of which concerns research (Ligue contre le cancer gironde), and the other family support (Parentr’ Help and Haur Eri). “Last year, we received 12,000 euros. And since 2013, more than 100,000 euros,” he continues. And he adds: “We used our address book and the Bordeaux race was exported to other cities in the region with demonstrations in Toulouse, Bayonne and Lée (near Pau). We intend to organize it again in other cities”.
Small change this year, the village of this Great Scooter Race, will not be between the water mirror and the eco-citizen house. The town hall, one of the partners of the event, made the Munich square available, just after the water mirror, on September 10 from 9:30 a.m.
