Disappearance of Eduardo Malpica: no police search planned for Monday, for the moment

Today, the investigators will notably continue to speak to witnesses and collect information, in addition to viewing the surveillance cameras again, affirms Sergeant Luc Mongrain.

Zénob employees will be met to try to establish the individual’s consumption scenario, he adds. Everything suggests that the man was intoxicated at the end of the evening, but it remains to be seen whether he ended up in this state voluntarily or involuntarily.

The attempt to locate his cell phone as well as the calls made to the hospitals did not give anything, indicates the spokesperson of the police. A command post was established on Sunday where he was last seen, near the Le Flambeau monument.

Officers were deployed throughout the weekend, mainly in downtown Trois-Rivières and on the banks of the St. Lawrence and Saint-Maurice rivers. Firefighters also inspected the waterways from a boat. The operation ended Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m., without giving results, says Sergeant Luc Mongrain.

The divers were not called in for reinforcement because of the lack of tracks in the snow leading directly to the waterways, said Mr. Mongrain. We have no conclusive evidence that leads us to believe [à ce point-ci] that Mr. could have fallen into the water, but it is not excluded depending on the information that we could obtain.

Pedro Eduardo Malpica Ramos, 44, has been missing since Saturday. He was last seen around 2 a.m. The father of a four-year-old boy teaches sociology at Collège Laflèche and also works for the Solidarity Committee of Trois-Rivières.

Relatives continue to mobilize

The improvised headquarters at the Trois-Rivières Solidarity Committee remains in place. Volunteers could expand their scope of intervention, which was mainly limited to the city center and its surroundings, says a friend and colleague of the deceased, Charles Fontaine.

He estimates that a hundred citizens and relatives of Eduardo Malpica were at work on Sunday to try to find him, which demonstrates the importance of the man in the community.

It’s really not in his habits. There are a lot of people who are worried. »

Mr. Fontaine saw Eduardo Malpica in the hours before he disappeared. They were taking part in a corporate gala which took place at the POP museum. Eduardo Malpica was part of the organization. I saw Eduardo all evening busy, busyhe says, specifying that his friend would have taken only a glass of wine at the end of the evening at the museum.

Charles Fontaine says that a few people went to Zénob after the gala. He personally saw Eduardo Malpica having just a beer. Charles Fontaine says he left the bar a little before midnight. He went to see Eduardo to greet him and everything seemed normal to him. We had a very rational conversationhe recalls.

When he learned that his friend would have been in an advanced state of intoxication at the end of the evening, he was in shock. It seems really mysterious and strange to me, he explains. Charles Fontaine affirms that the testimonies collected by the relatives tend to show that Eduardo Malpica would have been rational until almost 1:30 am.

An altercation reportedly took place following racist remarks. This information was not corroborated by the police.

The Mayor of Trois-Rivières, Jean Lamarche, visited the Trois-Rivières Solidarity Committee over the weekend to lend his support to the volunteers.
