UpdateA serious road accident in Antwerp on the night of Saturday to Sunday left one dead, the driver, and 18 injured among the passengers, British nationals, including a 15-year-old teenager, between life and death, according to police spokesman Wouter Bruyns.

The road accident took place around 3:30 a.m. at a crossroads in the Flemish metropolis, rue Colonel Silvertop, at the intersection between the General Armstrong and Sint-Bernard roads.

A minibus carrying British nationals was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend. The minibus hit a pole before rolling onto its side.

The 67-year-old driver did not survive the crash. The other 18 passengers were taken to hospital. A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured. His days are endangered. The other passengers have minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. It is not yet established why the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed.

The police spokesperson warns of possible traffic jams around the scene of the tragedy.
