Manhattan State Court Judge Juan Merchan agreed to allow the former US president to appear remotely, bypassing the heavy security needed on April 4, when Trump was arraigned and pleaded not guilty in person.
Dressed in a red pinstripe tie and blue suit and sitting next to his attorney Todd Blanche in front of American flags, Trump was seen on at least four screens in the Merchan courtroom.

The restrictions were placed on grand jury minutes, witness statements and other materials that prosecutors must turn over to the defense to prepare for trial.
In a May 8 order, Merchan prohibited disclosure of those materials to third parties, including the media and social media.
Trump, the favorite for the republican nomination for president In the 2024 election, he remains free to speak about most of the evidence in the case, which comes from the defense, the judge said at a hearing earlier this month.
