The agricultural system needs “safety valves” to respond to the challenges of the Green Pact of the European Union, which increases environmental demands, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain before the UN and the World Trade Organization (WTO). ), Javier Sierra.
Sierra has participated in a webinar of the Spanish Association of Cereal Technicians (AETC), in which he has highlighted the “complicated economic situation” facing the agricultural sector.
The Spanish representative has indicated that “work is being done to eliminate export restrictions, maintaining open markets and a regular, reliable and diversified supply worldwide”, during his speech, broadcast this Thursday by AETC.
“The food system is subject to the pressures of the value chain, which turns out to be very competitive, in which very cheap food has been produced and with the highest standards of quality and food safety worldwide,” he added.
For this reason, according to Sierra, “it is necessary to provide escape valves for the European agricultural system so that it can assume everything that the European Green Pact implies, especially applying a lot of knowledge transfer and embracing new technologies, which will mean cost savings and align more with the principle of sustainability.
AETC has organized a virtual seminar to present its XXXV Technical Conference that will take place on October 3 and 4 in Jerez de la Frontera.
