The restriction of gas service in Valle del Cauca and Eje Cafetero has generated different situations that affect the population and, at the same time, urge citizens to bring out their creativity to be able to perform tasks such as cooking. For their part, some merchants have taken advantage of this context to inflate prices, specifically in kitchen items that facilitate the preparation of food without gas.
A large part of the homes in the city of Santiago de Cali have the natural gas service, this being the fundamental element for the correct performance of the stoves, even, despite the high temperatures, some citizens choose to use it for their heaters of water, however, is not the main focus. The foregoing has also forced the use of tanks or gas pipettes to be gradually abandoned, since one with a fixed installation is used.
Over the last few days, dozens of people from Cali have been seen cooking in the streets, some choose to organize community pots and others simply limit themselves to preparing their food individually. Some have used sandwich makers, rice cookers, coffee makers and even alcohol-based stoves.
The famous Air Fryers are also an option, because in addition to facilitating the preparation of food, it allows many residents to cope with the dire situation they face without gas service and only depending on electricity. It should be noted that the suspension of this input was almost surprising, therefore few people were prepared for the matter.
Bearing in mind that not all citizens had electric stoves or other electrical appliances that facilitate cooking without gas, some vendors and merchants have taken the opportunity to raise the prices of these elements, since normally a stove from a stall of this type could cost 70 thousand pesos and in recent days they can be found for up to 140 thousand pesos in the market.
This situation has also been related to pipette gas, as some sectors of the population have resorted to buying the cylinders, whose value is exaggerated and can cost twice as much.
According to the official, homes in the affected regions could have gas in the next few hours, in addition to smaller businesses. Meanwhile, on Thursday night and early Friday, the gas will most likely reach industrial zones.
“With this, we can say that in the next few hours the gradual restoration of the natural gas service will begin. for homes, in addition to small businesses, already at night it will be done with industrial users”.
“The news we have for today is that all technical compression tests have begun, which allows us to announce that gas will begin to be sent from this Thursday through the main pipeline. that is available to the operators”Velez added.
For his part, Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina highlighted the work of the competent entities in advancing the work, since initially it was estimated that the suspension would extend to more than a week, a context that not only affected the houses, but also the industries.
“This is very good news, we congratulate all those who have made it possible for a restriction that could have lasted 10 days to be reduced to 24 hours, that will make it possible for us to once again have natural gas in our homes, in industry, in services and in transportation; that we can overcome what would be called the “gas crisis”, but it should also invite us to reflect that Cali must have a strengthening in the gas supply”.
