The Ministry of Security, through the Undersecretariat for Civil Protection and Comprehensive Approach to Emergencies and Catastrophes, announced that during Thursday, a weather balloon belonging to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (POT) of the United States, fell in Governor Gregores, Santa Cruz.
The balloon was monitored, verifying that it did not impact a populated area. In any case, a coordinated security operation was carried out between the Undersecretary of Civil Protection, the Santa Cruz Police and the Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA)

Official sources confirmed to The Southern Opinion that the operation was carried out with the aim of recovering and safeguarding two meteorological information capsules, which will be transported by an Argentine company to the United States.
In turn, they detailed that it was a flight test of a “super pressure balloon”, which carried the scientific mission of the SuperBIT Telescope.
“The mission began in New Zealand almost 40 days ago, and today the SuperBIT parachuted back to Earth in an unpopulated area northeast of Gobernador Gregores, Argentina,” they explained.
The balloon completed a record five full circuits over the southern hemisphere mid-latitudes while maintaining a hover altitude of around 108,000 feet.
