MARINA CAP CANA. – With a beautiful and well-attended ceremony, the 2023 edition of the Cap Cana White Marlin Tournament was inaugurated this Thursday night with the participation of 39 boats and more than 150 fishermen of six nationalities.
The director of the Cap Cana Marina, Mr. Silvano Suazo, praised in a special way the support provided by yacht clubs from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Brazil, Australia, South Africa and the hosts from the Dominican Republic.
“We have people who have come from near and far to be with us in this 2023 edition. To all of them and to our sponsors, our most sincere thanks. I hope you have good fishing and can enjoy the amenities offered by the Destination City”, said Suazo when welcoming.
He added that he hopes to exceed the 83 needles released last year, pinning hopes that during the two days of workshops, the skilled fishermen can reach figures of over one hundred species of billfish returned to their habitat.
Black Gold and Seaguapa boats
After noon this Friday, while waiting for official figures at the end of the day, more than thirty needles were reported duly released. The Black Gold boat, registered in the Pro category, had 900 points on the rods of Mike McCarthy and José Gómez. In the same way, the Seaguapa boat had released three billfishes, but only two of the White Marlin species. The third marlin released was a Blue Marlin. Alberto Rodríguez and Humberto Quintana stand out in this boat.
La Sisu, Grace and Amapola added two released pieces each. In Sisu, Hendrick Jacobus and Tiaan Janson stand out. For its part, Grace accumulates 600 points on Diego Viyella’s rod. Sisu is in the Pro category, while Grace is in the Semi Pro. The fisherman Federico López hooked the two whites of Amapola (Pro).
In addition to the White and Blue Marlin species, sailfish and spearfish are considered. The tournament concludes on Saturday 27 of the currents with the delivery of prizes to the most outstanding.
The boat with the highest score will be the winner of the contest. The fishermen registered in categories. In the same way, the most outstanding lady and the best young fisherman will be awarded.
During the first fishing date, the boats put out to sea starting at 6:45 in the morning and cast lines into the water at 7:30. Line collection was scheduled for 5:00 in the afternoon.
