A doctor has revealed three different inflammatory foods that can make us appear older.

It’s no secret that what we eat plays a role in physical health and this is true for both the outside and inside of the body. The skin is the body’s largest organ. To keep it in prime condition we need to eat a nutrient dense diet packed with antioxidants, healthy fats and plenty of water.

By consuming nutrient rich foods, this helps keep the body healthy from the inside out, with the benefits resulting in a glowing, youthful complexion. Of course there are countless creams, serums that claim to do the same but there is only so much these expensive cosmetics can do.

As a result, there are also plenty of foods which have the opposite effect on the skin and can even cause it to age prematurely. That’s according to gastroenterologist Dr Sethi, who took to social media to explain three anti-inflammatory foods that “accelerate aging.”

A gastroenterologist is a specialist with expertise in the disorders and diseases that affect the digestive system, Wales Online reports. Scientific research shows a strong link between the stomach and the skin, with strong gut health proven to benefit the external organ.

In a TikTok video @doctorsethimd said: “The three worst foods that can accelerate the aging process. The third one on the list is the one I am guilty of consuming myself a lot during my medical school days and unknowingly paying a heavy price for it later.

“Sodas are loaded with added sugars and artificial sweeteners. The excess sugar leads to glycation which damages collagen and elastin contributing to premature wrinkles.

“Instead choose plain water, sparkling water, unsweetened tea or coffee.

“Second, deep fried foods are high in trans fats and unhealthy oils. These promote inflammation and skin aging. Opt for oven baked, sauteed, steamed or grilled options.

“Third, cup noodles which contain high levels of sodium, artificial additives which can lead to dehydration and puffiness making skin appear aged and tired. Choose wholewheat noodles with tons of vegetables.”

The advice comes after a dermatologist shared one daily habit that may prevent the effects of aging by applying one product.
