
On the occasion, mining companies were able to make visible their areas of interest and the type of technology they need to implement in their operations in the short, medium and long term.
Within the framework of the III International Meeting of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Investment “EtM Day”, Chile Foundation brought together the mining industry around the opportunities and models of linking with startups in the “Reverse Pitch in Mining”.
There were six mining companies (Anglo American, BHP, Albemarle Chile, SQM, Antofagasta Minerals and Codelco)partners of Fundación Chile, who took advantage of the opportunity to present the various open innovation processes that they currently have available to connect with the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.
On the occasion, they were able to make visible their areas of interest and the type of technology that they need to implement in their operations in the short, medium and long termas well as the initiatives they are developing together with ChileGlobal Ventures and Expande, and other organizations.
The general manager of Fundación Chile, Hernán Araneda, pointed out that “the Chilean mining industry is facing highly complex global challenges that require having an ecosystem that offers technological solutions that allow them to move towards a more competitive and sustainable industry. For this reason, and given the value they have been able to capture in recent times, mining companies have expanded and strengthened their areas of innovationas well as its open innovation processes to connect with startups and suppliers with excellent results.”
Along the same lines, Anglo American’s Impact Investment Specialist, Ignacio Hinojosa, highlighted that “from our company it seems essential to develop this type of initiatives and an opportunity for small businesses and/or startups to really connect with the mining industry and decision makers”.
For his part, the manager of Corporate Affairs and Communications of Albemarle Chile, Marcelo Valdebenito, added that “as Albemarle it is a pride to be participating in these instances that allow us to talk about innovation and collaboration, in addition to delivering the message of how we dream of the new lithium era. At Albemarle we are collaborative, we work with others to find the best solutions, we look for the best partners in the world and hopefully in the Antofagasta region as well to face these challenges that we have.”.
