First benchmarks: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X . Intel Core i9-13900K

With their new gaming processors, AMD and Intel are likely to be fighting for the performance throne again at the end of the year. In advance, the first benchmarks give hope for an exciting head-to-head race between the Ryzen 9 7950X (Zen 4) and Core i9-13900K (Raptor Lake).

While the presentation of the new Raptor Lake processors is eagerly awaited by Intel fans, AMD already unveiled its new gaming CPUs with Zen 4 architecture this week. The new high-end portfolio is headed by the Ryzen 9 7950X with 16 cores and clock speeds of up to 5.7 GHz at a TDP of 170 watts. In the future, the 7950X will have to face the Intel Core i9-13900K and its eight performance, 16 efficiency cores and clock speeds of up to 5.8 GHz.

AMD . Intel: Interesting head-to-head race in the fall

Various benchmarks offer a first glimpse of the competition of Geekbench 5 can be found. Here are two comparable Asus systems that are equipped with engineering samples from the new AMD and Intel processors. In the multi-core test, both the Ryzen 9 7950X and the Core i9-13900K score over 24,000 points with a barely noticeable lead for AMD. A similar picture emerges from the single-core results (2217 vs. 2169 points). Synthetic tests like this one suggest a tie, but the performance in practice should be much more exciting. While AMD says it can already hold its own in games with the cheap Ryzen 5 7600X against Intel’s current top model, the Core i9-12900K, a comparison with the upcoming Raptor Lake generation remains to be seen. It is unclear whether Intel will compare itself to the Ryzen 7000 CPUs that will be released at the end of September or to their predecessors when presenting its new processor family.

The official unveiling of the new 13th Gen Intel Core i processors is expected on September 28, 2022 during the Intel Innovation event.
