In the past few days, pellet prices in Germany have initially fallen slightly. After a brief increase in costs, the price is currently at a stable level. In the long run comparison however, there are larger differences.

  • A month ago, the price for a tonne of pellets was 799.36 euros.
  • At the beginning of the year, pellet prices per ton were EUR 355.95.
  • At the beginning of 2020 you could buy a ton of pellets for 232.52 euros.

Pellet prices in Germany: Differences between the federal states

Not only does it affect when you buy pellets, but also where. Depending on Federal State and region, there are sometimes significant differences. These are due, among other things, to how much wood is processed in the region and how much waste is left over. The prices in our table are based on information from “energieuser.de”.

Pellets are currently the most expensive in southern Germany, while heating is particularly cheap in the north. Apart from regional differences, pellet prices are significantly lower than gas or oil. In return for this is the purchase of one pellet heating more expensive – compared to gas and oil heating, it costs around twice as much.
