The first competition of the Four Hills Tournament takes place in Oberstdorf. This is how you can see ski jumping live on TV and in the live stream today.

Oberstdorf – On Wednesday (December 28th) the 71st Four Hills Tournament starts with the qualification for the first competition on Thursday (December 29th) in Oberstdorf – and fans can finally be there live at the Schattenbergschanze again. That was not possible in 2020 and 2021 due to the corona pandemic.

The German ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald is also happy about the return of the fans at the Four Hills Tournament. “When you stand up there and everyone suddenly starts yelling, you’re a bit nervous, but that’s just motivating,” the former ski jumper recalls in the sports show. “The fact that we finally have a full house again is sensational.”

Four Hills Tournament 2022/23: German jumpers are not among the favorites

For the German ski jumpers, however, things are looking rather poor this year. While Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler were among the favorites in the race for the Golden Eagle last year, they have been lagging behind their form so far this season. Geiger is currently in seventh place overall in the World Cup, Eisenbichler is in seventeenth place.

At the dress rehearsal for the Four Hills Tournament in Engelberg, Geiger ended up in tenth place after two rounds, Eisenbichler was just 30. After the jump, he also became clear: “Of course I’m extremely pissed right now,” said Eisenbichler about his result. “I’m brutally disappointed in myself right now and that’s actually the worst thing that can be.”

But hope dies last, as is well known, maybe the knot will burst after all – especially with Geiger, who comes from Oberstdorf and therefore knows the Schattenbergschanze inside and out. However, the favorites to win the Four Hills Tournament 2022/23 are others. Pole Dawid Kubacki, Slovenian Anze Lanisek and Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud are among the main contenders for the Golden Eagle.
