“This concept always provides thrills,” enthuses singer Lena Meyer-Landrut about the blind auditions of “The Voice Kids” in an interview given the start of the season on Friday, March 10, 8:15 p.m., Sat.1. And the opening show of the eleventh season has it all, as Sat.1 leaked in advance.

Eleven-year-old Fia from Berlin not only enchanted the coaches with her voice during the recording, she also literally sings with her hands. In English sign language, she dedicates her performance to someone very special to her: “I’m doing this for my little sister Emilia, who can’t talk,” she explains to the amazed jurors. “I started learning sign language for her.” Since then she has been singing in two languages, so to speak – including the Jessi J. hit “Flashlight”.

Fia’s performance touches the audience and the coaches. Meyer-Landrut in particular seems moved by her story: “I don’t even know why I can’t stop crying. But that really touched me. Fia has a really great aura and great personality,” the 31-year-old sobbed in tears. Her colleague Wincent Weiss echoes the praise: “Fia’s performance is so special and difficult at the same time.” After all, she had to memorize the text twice. “She performed the song with an incredible amount of feeling,” he acknowledges her achievement. He had never seen anything like that on “The Voice Kids” before.

Meyer-Landrut: “Feel a greater responsibility towards the kids”

The only woman in the buzzing group of men now sees herself as something between sister, mother and girlfriend in relation to the talents, as she reveals. “It’s about the experience, the experience of being here on the show,” she emphasized in the interview. She must know, as she is the longest-serving juror in the format. She was there from the start, but took a break in between. During that time she was “ten years older, and of course there is a lot of experience as well”.

Now she can be there for the children in a completely different way. “As a 20-year-old, I didn’t perceive the importance as I do now,” says the former ESC winner, looking back on her beginnings with “The Voice Kids”. Now she also feels a greater responsibility towards the kids.

It remains to be seen whether Fia will ultimately be able to benefit from Meyer-Landrut’s experience or whether it will opt for a different swivel chair. Which of the coaches, Alvaro Soler, Wincent Weiss or Michi Beck and Smudo, buzzes and turns around? In addition to the eleven-year-old, the young artists Mia K. (12) from Maulbronn, Joyce (10) from Ober-Ramstadt, Ole (9) from Gießen, Amelie (15) from Körperich and Damian B. (11) perform in the first show Wiesbaden. Dilara (12) from Regensburg, Ellice (15) from Fürstenwalde and the siblings Anna A. (15) and David (13) from Chemnitz also dare to go on the big stage.

“The Voice Kids” (Sat.1) can also be seen with subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people in the online live stream via the subtitle symbol in the control bar or in the TV signal via teletext page 149.
