After a long search for missing persons: ex-ski jumper Antonin Hajek died

He was missing for several months, now it is sad certainty: The former ski jumper Antonin Hajek died at the age of only 36. No details are known about the exact circumstances.

As the Czech Ski Association confirmed on Friday, Hajek’s death has been officially confirmed by the Czech authorities. “On Friday, March 10th, the federation received overwhelming news from the Czech Republic. Former ski jumper, Czech record holder and national coach Antonin Hajek has died. His life ended at the early age of 36,” read the association’s official statement.

Hajek was reported missing by his family on October 2 last year. Czech tabloid media reported about private problems and that he might have emigrated to Malaysia. There is currently no further information about the exact circumstances of death.

Czech record holder was also head coach

Hajek did not have great successes as an active ski jumper, he achieved his best World Cup placings in 2010 with two fourth places in Tauplitz / Bad Mitterndorf and Sapporo. With 236 meters he still holds the Czech national record in ski flying, set at the Ski Flying World Championships 2010 in Planica.

After the end of his career in 2015, Hajek then embarked on a coaching career, initially training the Czech youth. Then, in January 2020, he briefly took over as head coach of the Czech team after David Jiroutek was sacked by the federation. Most recently, Antonin Hajek worked as a coach for the women’s national team.
