According to the information, 15 American children and young people between the ages of 7 and 17 were on the bus. The vehicle came from Ramstein Air Force Base. According to witnesses, it got into the hard shoulder on district road 19 between Weilerbach and Erzenhausen at noon and overturned.

The 60-year-old driver ran confused across a field after the accident, the police reported, citing witnesses. At first she had announced that the man had fled. Apparently he was in shock. According to the police, the driver was drunk. He was slightly injured and is being treated medically. In addition to the fire brigade, rescue service and police, the US military police were also on site.

The salvage work should continue until late in the evening. Police estimate the damage to property at several thousand euros. The 60-year-old is being investigated for endangering road traffic and bodily harm.
