The Republican National Committee refused to continue paying former President Donald Trump’s legal fees related to the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid. for the secret documents that the former president took.

This is a setback for the former president, who recently added former Florida prosecutor Chris Kise to his legal team, whose fees will have to be covered by the former president.

“A person familiar with the matter confirmed that the Republican National Committee is not paying Trump’s legal fees related to the FBI investigation and the recovery of documents at Mar-a-Lago,” Politico published.

The Committee had agreed to pay some of the former president’s legal fees, such as the New York Attorney General’s trial, Letitia Jamesabout the possible business fraud of the Trump Organization.

It is not clear whether the party will continue to pay the fees for certain Trump legal proceedingsbut he had anticipated that he would stop doing so if Trump decides to compete for the presidency in 2024, something that was expected to be announced this summer.

The Republican Party has sought to implement a policy of “impartiality” over its internal candidate selection processes, so paying legal fees to Trump’s team would be a problem.

In an interview with La Opinion, Jaime Florez, director of Communications for Hispanics of the Republican Party, rejected that there was favoritism towards Trump.

“We as the Republican National Committee are bound by the rules to maintain absolute neutrality,” he said.

“The truth that when they tell us, you are for Trump, that is absolutely inaccurate; we are not in favor, we cannot be in favor of any candidate, we do not have any candidate; What we want is the greatest clarity, the greatest possible transparency in the primary election processes,” he added.

Former President Trump faces debts of thousands of dollars for payments in lawyers and, for example, until last December his party had agreed to pay $1.6 million dollars, according to a report by The New York Times.
