Bolivia will celebrate this Sunday, September 4, the Pedestrian Day, whose objective is to promote health care and the environment, with the restriction of the circulation of vehicles, bicycle tours and cultural, recreational and sports activities.
Every first Sunday of the month of September of each year the “Day of the Pedestrian and the Cyclist in Defense of Mother Earth” is held, families go out to the squares, parks and bicycle tours shine.
In La Paz, the restriction of the circulation of vehicles is from 09:00 to 18:00 and one of the main activities is the “bicicleteada” organized by the Critical Mass cycling community of La Paz for Pedestrian Day.
“We will go out en masse. We will concentrate on the Eguino square and we will finish in the stadium square (Miraflores) we will walk and take over streets that on ordinary days are difficult to travel on foot or by bike”, indicates the message from Masa Crítica La Paz on its Facebook page .
Critical Mass La Paz, is a movement that promotes and encourages the use of bicycles as a means of urban transport.
The concentration point for the “bicicleteada” is Plaza Eguino and then the Illampu, Santa Cruz, Linares, Rodríguez, Murillo, Morado Cable Car, Almirante Grau, Mercado, Bueno, Juan de la Riva, Federico Suazo, Montevideo, Arce, Twin Bridge, Juan de Vargas, Triangular Square, Saavedra to Tejada Sorzano Square, Stadium.
For that day, the Mi Teleférico service will be normal, from 07:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and passengers will be able to enter with their bicycles at no additional cost.
“We are going to allow bicycles to enter for free, that pedestrians can move from one point to another, also their pets, always complying with the regulations,” said the executive manager of the cable company, Sergio Choque.
The La Paz Bus Terminal through a statement reported that departures to different destinations are suspended until 6:00 p.m.
In the same way, the administrator of the Metropolitan Terminal of El Alto, Raúl Flores, reported that departmental and international transport operations for Sunday are suspended from 08:00 to 18:00.
The Municipal Mobility Secretariat of the Mayor’s Office of La Paz reported that the exceptional vehicle circulation permits for Pedestrian Day were received until Friday.
On the other hand, on the Pedestrian and Cyclist Day this Sunday, the municipal parks and courts will remain open to the public, between 09:00 and 17:00, announced the manager of the Municipal Company of Green Areas, Parks and Forestry ( Emaverde), Angela Oropesa.
Laguna de Cota Cota, La Florida, Valle del Sol, Bartolina Sisa, Laikakota, Las Zebras, Bosquecillo de Pura Pura, Botanical Garden, Zapata field and Area 12 are the municipal spaces that will be available on Sunday.
“The municipal parks and courts will be a good family alternative this Sunday, the objective of opening the parks on Pedestrian Day is for the residents of the houses surrounding the parks to visit these recreational spaces with their family and friends,” he said. Oropesa.
He assured that for the second consecutive year recreational spaces are opened on Pedestrian Day. “Between 09:00 and 17:00, visitors can enjoy the different recreational spaces to walk, share or play sports,” she said.
The Day of the Pedestrian and the Cyclist, has the objective of raising awareness in the population, about the protection of the environment and therefore the protection of health throughout the national territory, this day is carried out in compliance with Law 150.
