Memorial Day: Five recommendations to prevent pool accidents this long weekend in California

FRESNO, California.- For this long Memorial Day weekend, here are some recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent a tragedy in the water.

  • Install barriers to control access to hazardous water areas.
  • Have supervision at all times when there are children in the pool
  • Wear a life jacket, regardless of age if you do not have the ability to swim.
  • Know how to provide first aid to help in case of an emergency.
  • Take swimming classes.

Free Swim Lessons in Fresno

The Fresno Unified School District offers free swimming lessons for its students or residents ages 3-18. They have different levels of learning and all sessions last two weeks with classes from Monday to Friday.

Session 1:
June 19, 2023 – June 30, 2023

Session 2:
July 3, 2023- July 14, 2023

Session 3:
July 17, 2023 – July 28, 2013

Classes are held every half hour starting at 3:00 p.m. at 6:30 p.m. and the locations are these:

  • Edison High School
  • Hoover High School
  • Mclane High School
  • Roosevelt High School

Registrations opened this May 19, at 8:00 am. For more information you can enter www.fresno.gov/swimlessons or contact (559) 621 -7529.

Individuals who are not Fresno residents or are 18 years of age or older will pay $50.
