NASA observes a polar cyclone on Uranus for the first time – Enseñame de Ciencia

The planet Uranus is the seventh in our Solar System, having Saturn and Neptune as neighbors. This is one of the 4 gaseous planets, and it has a bluish hue that is mainly due to the methane that the planet has on its surface.

Although it is the fourth largest, and the second least dense, almost not as much attention has been given to it, leaving it as one of the least explored of all the planets in the Solar System, however, due to its great mass and its temperature , this, along with Neptune, are included in the category “Frozen Giants”.

Uranus is so unique in every way, but the most notable feature of this gas giant is that according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), it << it spins in the opposite direction to Earth > > and during its orbit it’s like a ball rolling around something.

But this is not all, and as we mentioned above, Uranus is quite particular, so much so that NASA has detected the first cyclone on Uranus, but the strangest thing is that it is a polar cyclone.

This finding occurs at the north pole of said planet, and although it was something that had been suspected since before, this time there was an opportunity for scientists to find solid evidence, confirming the hypothesis.

And it is that previously it was believed that the planets had a kind of whirlpool at their poles, which is true, and scientists knew that Uranus had a whirlpool, but at its south pole, for which this discovery left them speechless.

On the other hand, an article has been published in Advancing Earth And Space Science, where it is evident that a warmer temperature is present at the north pole than the rest of the planet, which highlights the presence of a polar cyclone.

The discovery

At the National Radio Astronomy Observatory is the radio telescope that was used to observe the clouds of Uranus, and to see what was below them. What they found was amazing, it was the air circulating in the very north pole, which, as we mentioned above, was in dry and warm conditions, providing a hotter temperature than the rest of the place, therefore this was a factor that was due to analyze.

Obviously, it was the presence of a large-magnitude cyclone, although it is not the only cyclone that has been seen in the Solar System, it was surprising because Uranus does not present water in a liquid state… Now do you understand the rarity of this? ?

This new discovery will clearly continue to be studied, as it has left astronomers extremely impressed. So the observation of the evolution of this polar cyclone will be followed, in order to continue informing people about such a great finding.
