The Cali Mayor’s Office activated the alarms against the sale and distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The Mayor’s Office of Cali made a call to attend to the security measures that must be guaranteed in the sale and distribution of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The local government set off the alarms in the face of different findings, reported in response to security controls and operations during the emergency due to restriction of natural gas supply.

Around 500 complaints were dealt with by the Inspection, Surveillance and Control Undersecretariat, attached to the Security and Justice Secretariat and within the framework of the contingency. Of these, 100 were effective, being the opportunity to demonstrate modalities of distribution of liquefied gas that put the lives of citizens at risk.

“This situation gave us the opportunity to meet the people who are dedicating themselves to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) business illegally and irresponsibly. This helps us to make a call to the whole of society about the risk of irregularly bottling this gas in the territory”, assured Jimmy Dranguet, Secretary of District Security and Justice.

Sales worth $5,000, $10,000 and up to $20,000 of Liquefied Petroleum Gas were part of the findings, where the citizen commits an illegal purchase and sale and, furthermore, is unaware of the dangers generated by handling these components.

“Many people carry a pipe, recharge it and return to their destination and it is a situation that we cannot allow. For this reason, we will strengthen controls and operations, because we must protect life. Thank God we have not had an incident, but this calls on us to prevent dramatic situations that may arise, due to the mismanagement that occurs in some spaces with the gas business,” Dranguet specified.

Cali only has five authorized producers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, for which the sanctions and operations against this illegal business will be increased. It is a fuel that, if handled improperly, can create fire and explosion risks.
