The Governor of Atlántico visited the home of one of the households benefiting from the ‘Gas for People’ program in the town of Villa Rosa, Repelón.

Between 2020 and 2022, 6,184 families were connected to the natural gas service and so far in 2023, 2,000 connections have been installed in the second phase of the program, for a total of 8,184 homes that receive this service for the first time.

Of the second phase of the program, Luruaco and Sabanagrande are the municipalities with the most gas connections executed to date, with 355 and 346 respectively.

Repelón, September 19, 2023. Atlantic Government. There are already 8 thousand Atlantic families that today enjoy the benefits of natural gas in their homes, thanks to the Government’s ‘Gas for People’ program. This was stated by the governor of Atlántico, Elsa Noguera, in a visit she made to one of the benefited homes in the Villa Rosa district, in Repelón.

“We are with Nesli Cárdenas, 42 years old, who is happy because, for the first time, she is receiving gas service in her home. She cooked with a single-station electric stove and had to wait a long time to have all her food ready; In addition, the electricity bill was very expensive. Now with gas, he saves money and has more free time to dedicate to his Fami Community Home for Family Welfare, with which he cares for pregnant and lactating mothers, and babies even both years, teaching them good care and parenting practices,” said Noguera.

The departmental leader added that, like Nesli, “the more than 8 thousand families that today already have gas in their townships and municipalities of the Atlántico are happy because they stopped using the electric stove, firewood, coal or pimpina to cook, means that were expensive, were unsafe, compromised people’s health and were unfriendly to the environment.”

Nesli Cárdenas assured that the natural gas service changed his life. “When I arrived home from the educational sessions at 12:00 noon, I had to cook with my electric stove and sometimes the power went out. That delayed me and I finished cooking at 2:00 in the afternoon. Now I arrive at 12:00 and when it’s 1:00 everything is ready. We are very grateful to the Governor, Ecopetrol and Gases del Caribe for making the gas connection possible in my district,” said the community mother.

According to the Undersecretary of Housing, Alejandro Quintero, between 2020 and 2022, 6,184 families from 10 municipalities and 15 towns in the Atlantic were connected. “And so far in 2023, 2 thousand connections have been installed, belonging to the second phase of the ‘Gas for People’ program, of a total of 4 thousand contracted connections, which represents 50 percent of progress of the project in this stage,” he added.

The project has an investment of 4,278 million pesos, of which Ecopetrol contributes 3,236 million and the Government, 1,041 million.

The new natural gas connections are reaching the municipalities of Galapa, Luruaco, Malambo, Manatí, Palmar de Varela, Piojó, Polonuevo, Repelón, Sabanagrande, Santa Lucía, Santo Tomás, Soledad and Tubará.
