The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a mid-compact pickup truck that is being sold in the US and Canadian markets, being derived from the new generation Hyundai Tucson.
Produced in Montgomery, Alabama, Santa Cruz takes the first name given to Brazilian lands, officially discovered by Portugal in 1500, but it is also a beach county in California, hence its name.
Although Santa Cruz can also be associated with Brazil, the Hyundai pickup has not yet come, although it has been used as a benchmark by Stellantis, in Betim-MG, to make the Ram 1200.
Developed to be a leisure vehicle above all else, it embodies many elements of the Tucson, sharing the US assembly line with it.
With solutions to expand versatility, Santa Cruz is a less determined rival of Ford Maverick, having sold just over 36,000 units in 2022 against more than 74,000 of the Mexican pickup truck.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is equipped with a Smartstream G2.5 engine in two versions, one aspirated and the other turbocharged, both with direct fuel injection.
With 2,497 cm³, the four-cylinder engine has an aluminum block and cylinder head, employing a chain-driven variable valve timing system.
In the case of the aspirated, the characteristic of the Smartstream G2.5 is the Atkinson cycle and the high compression ratio, having no less than 13:1, the same as the MA20-FXE 2.0 of the national Toyota Corolla.
Available in SE and SEL versions, Hyundai’s 2.5 GDi delivers 194 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 25.0 kgfm at 4,000 rpm.
For its use in Santa Cruz, only the eight-speed automatic transmission with torque converter is accepted, with an option for AWD traction that can be turned off.
The Smartstream G2.5 T-GDi has a much better preparation, using a turbocharger and intercooler, in addition to other improvements compared to the aspirated 2.5.
With that, it reaches 281 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 43.0 kgfm from 1,750 rpm to 4,000 rpm, ensuring elasticity and efficiency, thanks to the high torque.
