Today, Sunday, the Al-Ahly Club management sends a letter to CAF officials requesting to play the Sudanese Al-Hilal match at ten in the evening of the first of next April, instead of March 31, in the last round of the group stage in the African Champions League.
Al-Ahly’s request comes from CAF to give the international players a chance to breathe after the end of their mission with the Egyptian national team on March 28, against Malawi.
There are seven players from Al-Ahly in the ranks of the Egyptian national team, they are: (Mohamed El-Shennawy – Mohamed Abdel-Moneim – Mohamed Hani – Marawan Attia – Hamdi Fathy – Ahmed Abdel-Qader – Mahmoud Kahraba) in preparation for the match against Malawi in the African qualifiers for the 2024 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire and the specified It will be held on March 24 and 28, in the third and fourth rounds.
Marcel Koller received good news after the team’s chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League recovered.
And the result of the tie (1-1) was decided by the match between Al-Hilal of Sudan and Sun Downs of South Africa in the fifth (penultimate) round of the group stage of the African Champions League.
The result is in the interest of Al-Ahly, who ranked third in the second group with 7 points, behind Sun Downs (11 points) and Al-Hilal (10 points), before facing the Sudanese team in the last round.
Sun Downs occupies the top of the second group with 11 points, while the Sudanese Hilal comes in second place with 10 points, Al-Ahly in third place with 7 points, and Al-Qatan in fourth place without points.
Sun Downs secured the ascent to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, after reaching 11 points, and awaits the resolution of the second confused card between Al-Ahly and Al-Hilal Sudanese in the last round in the group stage.
It is noteworthy that Al-Ahly played its matches in the African Champions League this season at Al-Salam Stadium, with an audience ranging from 10 to 15 thousand spectators.
As for the Sudanese Al-Hilal, it played all its matches at the Blue Jewel Stadium without fans, because it did not meet the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
