Listed – 5 years and over – 6.000m
Bomari, the double and the legend
Eight horses will take the start of the Grand Cross de Craon (L), the sixth stage of the Crystal Cup. Winner of the event in 2020 and second in 2021, without having been happy in the fields, Bomari (Nidor) has all the cards to sign the double in the race and enter the legend of this flagship event of French cross. Second to a short head of Bolid du Mathan (Martaline), the great absentee, in the Prix Télopée, he will be the logical big favorite, especially as Craon is really his garden. Gentleman (Poliglote) will only be on his third cross-country outing and will be back in blinkers. But his third place in the Prix Télopée showed that he could consider taking a place on the podium. Bomari was clearly ahead of him, but he has a solid class.
Gold Allen (No Risk at All) will be on his third outing on the cross country, too. Winner of the Corlay Grand Cross, it didn’t take long for him to understand the workings of the discipline. He will discover Craon, which is a good bet. But he showed class over hurdles, he has staying power and speed. Twirling (Della Francesca) is the Breton hero, with three Grand Cross du Pertre to his name. When he ran this Grand Cross de Craon in 2021, he had not shown his worth and, given his form this year, we have to follow him! Emmanuel Clayeux has entered two competitors: Lucky Net Love (Network) and Gamine Apple’s (SaddlerMaker). Lucky Net Love is a safe bet for the big crosses. He will discover Craon, but he has proven that he adapts to different racetracks, even if Pau and Lyon-Parilly seem to be those on which he is most comfortable. Gamine Apple’s is esteemed and her performance in the Lyon Grand Cross is promising. In addition, we must not forget that she had won at 4 years old on the cross country of Craon, on a heavy track. Sweet Crazy (Denham Red) did some great things over the steeplechase. For the moment, it has not convinced in Craon but, after a good run, it can do at least as well as in the Anjou-Loire Challenge (4eL). Forza Conti (Khalkevi) always gives everything she has. On the podium of the big crosses of Granville and Pertre, she can aim for a place.
4:15 PM • CRAON • CLAUDE ROUGET PRIZE
Steeplechase – 5 years and over – 4,200m – 38,000 €
Chella Speed, at the dawn of a beautiful autumn
The Claude Rouget Prize is a preparation for the Grand Steeple-Chase de Craon (L, September 25). Eight horses will be in the running, including Chella Speed (Roli Abi), second in the local Grand Steeplechase in 2021 and who should again aim for this event. An eclectic mare, she arrives fresh in her autumn, without having had any hard races. Of course, her goal may not be Sunday, but she has the means to fight for victory. To counter it, we can cite Grace of God (Buck’s Boum), a courageous mare, undefeated in the steeplechase in two outings at Craon and a brilliant winner on this track recently. His mentor, William Menuet, can also count on Saint Dubawi (Red Dubawi), a regular horse who can still take a few steps. François Nicolle hired Noble Diamond (Diamond Green), winner of four of his seven outings and who will only carry 66 kg thanks to the discharge of Blandine Zuliani, and Beautiful Maulde (Balko), who is moving up in category. Gironde (Network) has been disappointing lately, but, on what it has done best, it has a very first chance. Diffly River Ann (Kapgarde) will make a big comeback. He is a hardened jumper. Guaranteed Gold (Nidor) will also make his return to the track while moving up the category.
5:25 PM • CRAON • PRIX DES AQPS OUEST-PRIX RICHARD DE GENNES
Flat AQPS – 3 years – 2.400m – 31.000 €
Alain Couétil has the keys
Alain Couétil has often shone in the Prix Richard de Gennes, a classic for 3-year-old AQPS. This year, he seems to hold the keys to victory with two starters who remain on a success: Joy of Dreams (Magneticjim), who beat Jacko of the Beaches (Joshua Tree), then winner at Moulins, and Jolly Way (Galiway), which easily won the Lion. Second in the Prix de l’Isle Briand (Gr3 AQPS), Justunestar (Joshua Tree) is still maiden, but shouldn’t be for long. Pretty Nasturtium (Prince Gibraltar) won in good style at Vittel. Jeanne Dalbius (Gris de Gris) was a brave third on her debut at Vichy. It will be necessary to review Jolva (No Risk at All), whose debut performance is too bad to be exact and who has just arrived at Daniela Mele.
