The next Canadian airline that hopes to compete with Air Canada and WestJet officially takes off on Thursday, with its first flight from YYZ to YYC scheduled for this morning.

Recall that Canada Jetlines is a new start-up airline headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario.

It will begin offering twice-weekly flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Calgary International Airport (YYC).

The Canadian Press devotes a report to him in its edition today.

According to reports from The Canadian Press, the airline will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion when its first flight arrives in Calgary.

Canada Jetlines markets itself as a “totally value-oriented Canadian leisure carrier”.

Flights to the Caribbean in sight

Although Toronto-Calgary is its only scheduled service at the moment, the line’s commercial director, Duncan Bureau, said the company plans to serve the leisure market, both domestically and cross-border.

To do this, it plans to launch flights to the Caribbean and the Americas, thus competing with other Canadian carriers offering flights to these destinations. No date has been announced at this time.

Canada Jetlines currently owns an Airbus A320. A second will join the fleet in December, according to Duncan Bureau, who adds that: “the carrier plans to grow the fleet to 15 Airbus A320s by 2025, at the rate of five aircraft per year”.

Emergence of low-cost carriers in Canada

Canada Jetlines is the newest airline to emerge in Canada, but not the first to emerge in the wake of the pandemic.

Edmonton-based Flair Airlines has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year and a half and now serves 36 airports through 85 routes and a fleet of 18 aircraft.

Based in Calgary, Lynx is formerly known as Enerjet. It launched last spring and said at the time it hoped to operate nearly 90 flights a week across nine routes by June, all within Canada.
