Leslie and Kevin, a young couple missing since November, found dead in France: what we know about the case

An evening spent with a friend in Prahecq, a town of 2,000 souls near Niort. And then, nothing. Leslie Hoorelbeke, 22, and Kevin Trompat, 21, have not been seen since November 26 around 2:30 a.m. They should have spent the night in a house lent by another friend, but they suddenly disappeared in the middle of the night, leaving behind them a thick mystery.

Three months after their disappearance, the bodies of Leslie Hoorelbeke and Kevin Trompat were discovered on March 4. The body of Kevin Trompat, 21, was exhumed on Friday in a field by the side of a road in Puyravault, a town where the couple’s belongings were found in December in a container for recycling clothes, near the home of one of the suspects. That of Leslie Hoorelbeke, 22, was exhumed on Saturday in a grove in the neighboring town of Virson.

Three men were indicted and imprisoned last week, two of them for murder. They were probably killed by blows “with a blunt object”, said Tuesday the public prosecutor in Poitiers, Cyril Lacombe.

What happened ? Leslie was 22 years old. She was a house painter and has several projects in progress. Kevin, 21, was unemployed. A fruit and vegetable seller in Niort, Kevin Trompat was looking to set up a business selling fishing tackle, “his great passion”. At the time of his disappearance, he was looking for a job and had just bought a converted truck.

Clothes in a container

The couple had met nearly a month prior through a mutual friend. On November 25, 2022, they spend the evening together, at a friend of Kevin’s in Prahecq. Around 2:30 a.m., they leave the premises. They are supposed to be sleeping at the house next door to another friend, Tom, who has joined a rave party. But the first elements of the investigation show that he would not have spent the night there.

No news from Leslie and Kevin since last night. A dog belonging to the young woman also vanished. A call for witnesses was then broadcast on social networks and a judicial investigation opened for “disturbing disappearance”. A few days later, belongings belonging to them are seen in a recycling container in the region. Clothes but also Kevin’s road safety certificate are discovered. This finding adds a little more mystery to their disappearance.

At the start of the investigations, relatives of Kevin Trompat mentioned the hypothesis of a kidnapping and kidnapping in the press. On the evening of his disappearance, Kevin Trompat had nearly 10,000 euros in cash on him, according to his stepmother. She would have delivered this sum of money to him for the purchase of a used car.

On March 4, two bodies were found in Charente-Maritime, not far from the home of a suspect. This Tuesday, the public prosecutor in Poitiers, Cyril Lacombe confirms that the two bodies found are indeed those of Leslie Hoorelbeke and Kevin Trompat. They were probably killed by blows “with a blunt object”, said Tuesday the public prosecutor in Poitiers, Cyril Lacombe.

Who are the three suspects?

After the indictment and detention of three suspects last week, the magistrate did not specify the “motives for taking action”, considering that they “remain to be confirmed”, between “sentimental disappointment” or financial debt.

On March 2, the man with whom the couple was supposed to sleep, Tom T., 22, was indicted for “kidnapping and forcible confinement”, and placed in pre-trial detention, according to the Poitiers prosecutor’s office. On January 5, during a search to find them, he told reporters that he had seen them “around 5:30 p.m.” on the day of their disappearance before leaving for “a techno evening”. The record of the young man’s telephone communications, however, showed that he had returned to see his friends in the village during the evening and that he had exchanged messages with Leslie Hoorelbeke until late at night.

The day after this first arrest, a second man, Nathan B., was indicted for “assassinations”, “modifying the inventory of a crime to obstruct the manifestation of the truth” and “kidnapping and sequestration”, wrote the public prosecutor of Poitiers. According to Le Courrier de l’Ouest, the telephone of this man, also 22 years old, had “limited” to the same places and at the same times as that of Tom Trouillet, the night of the disappearance. Her parents’ house, located 300 m from the clothes recycling container, was raided and her truck seized.
