According to a police report, the 34-year-old from Mainz drove his Opel SUV around 7:40 p.m. on the A60 near Mainz in the direction of Darmstadt. His ten-year-old son was also in the car.
At the Mainz/Süd motorway junction, the man initially overtook several vehicles in the right lane at a construction site, according to witnesses, at a speed of around 150 km/h at a permitted 60 kilometers per hour.
The route then led into a motorway tunnel near Mainz-Hechtsheim. Here, too, the traffic rowdy drove at significantly excessive speed in the middle of three lanes. At the Hechtsheim-Ost junction, he then tried to overtake the vehicles in front using the hard shoulder without reducing his speed.

Shortly thereafter, the man from Mainz raced across the beginning of the acceleration lane at the junction, where a 64-year-old man was with his Mercedes at the time, in order to drive onto the autobahn.
According to the police report, the 34-year-old Opel driver then rushed into the 64-year-old man’s car. The force of the impact threw the Mercedes against a concrete wall and then came to a standstill, badly damaged.
In addition to the driver, there were also two women aged 28 and 60 and a toddler aged one year in the car involved in the accident. All occupants were injured in the collision and had to be transported to a nearby hospital.
The Opel that caused the accident overturned as a result of the collision and only came to a standstill after 75 meters, severely damaged.

The ten-year-old son and his obviously irresponsible father also had to be taken to a clinic with injuries.
As the police recognized, the 34-year-old was probably under the influence of alcohol during the accident. However, he refused a breath test on site, which is why a blood sample was taken from him a little later. His driver’s license was also withheld for the time being.
Due to the accident measures, the A60 in the direction of Darmstadt had to be completely closed for about three hours.
