Today (03), the lawyer and philosopher, Silvio Almeida, took over the Ministry of Human Rights.
during his speechwas applauded during his speech on minorities and a counterpoint to the old government:
“You exist and are valuable to us.”
On the last day 22, the president-elect announced 15 new Ministers who will work in your government from 2023 onwards.
Who is Silvio Almeida?
Silvio Almeida is 46 years old, is a professor, jurist, philosopher and considered one of the greatest intellectuals of our time, Silvio Almeida is a Doctor of Law from USP (University of São Paulo) and author of the book Structural Racism (2019)which is considered one of the greatest references on the subject.
Almeida is also president of the Luiz Gama Institute and of the Center for Brazilian Studies at IREE (Institute for the Reform of Relations between the State and Business).
Silvio was invited by the transition team of the Lula government to be part of the WG (Working Group) in the area of Human Rights and made several suggestions regarding the names indicated by the Bolsonaro government.
He is the son of Barbosinha, a former goalkeeper for Corinthinans in the 1960s. It was because of his relationship with his father that Silvio realized racism:
“I noticed that my father’s nickname was due to them being black. And my father not only inherited the nickname, but the stigma on black goalkeepers.”said during an interview.
In an interview with UOL, Silvio details racism in society:
“It’s as if people are always looking at you, waiting for you to fulfill your destiny. That is, for you to fail. Because a goalkeeper must have something that people usually don’t associate with black people. And that is racism. Which is the trust. There is always a distrust”.
On his Twitter account, the future minister said that “assumes with immense honor and responsibility” the post of Minister of Human Rights and emphasized “the huge job” which will have:

On Twitter, politicians and journalists celebrated the choice of Silvio Almeida as the new Minister of Human Rights.
The vast majority of comments were remembering that the Ministry leaves the command of Damares Alves and passes to Silvio, sounding like a relief:
