Killed in front of her three young children

A young mother whose ex-spouse was acquitted this summer of death threats died Thursday after being stabbed in the parking lot of the Montreal building where she was holed up with her children.

The extremely violent crime occurred shortly before 9 a.m., on rue des Oblats, in the borough of LaSalle.

According to friends of the victim met at the scene, the mother of three children, including a newborn, had just installed the little ones in her car when her assailant allegedly burst in, armed with a knife.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his victim several times, inflicting very serious injuries.

The death of Gisèle Itale Betondi, 29, was confirmed in a hospital center in the Quebec metropolis late Thursday afternoon.

The Montreal police, who are trying to elucidate the murder, would now like to find the former spouse of M^me Betondi, especially since he has already been the subject of domestic violence charges.

This one, who is the father of the lady’s three children, is among the suspects, according to our police sources.

Acquitted in June

The 50-year-old was acquitted in June, following a trial in which the victim testified for the defense, according to court records.

The individual, who is not the subject of charges following the murder on Thursday, was back in court on August 31, in connection with breaches of conditions he allegedly committed in January.

However, he would have broken these three conditions. This other trial had been set for next December.

“She had been running away for a year”

At the scene of the crime, The newspaper witnessed a heartbreaking scene on Thursday.

Gisèle Itale Betondi’s friends collapsed outside the security perimeter, realizing what had just happened.

The victim of Cameroonian origin was described as a calm and reserved woman by her friends. She would have arrived in Canada a little less than five years ago, sponsored by the father of her children, also Cameroonian.

She had no family here, but was part of a tight-knit religious community. She received help from her friends so that her ex-husband could not find her.

“She was hiding from him,” says Daniela Bangangte. She had been running away from him for a year. »

The Montreal police continue to investigate in order to handcuff the perpetrator of this despicable murder.

In the early afternoon, several investigators and forensic identification technicians were at the scene of this violent crime to collect evidence. A command post has also been deployed.
