DACIA Bigster: when? and at what price?

Dacia is working on the launch of a new Large SUV alongside the new generation of the Dacia Duster: the all-new Dacia Bigster, which will debut in 2025, but several rumors suggest an earlier than expected launch?

The new SUV from the Romanian brand Dacia Bigster could mark a new start for the manufacturer from Mioveni. As part of the Renaulution strategy, the subsidiary of the French group Dacia unveiled in January 2021 a launch plan for the next five years, which includes the Dacia Bigster concept – a C-segment SUV.

Dacia Bigster series models (code name: Dacia R1310) will not be very different from the concept version. Mihai Bordeanu, Dacia Regional Director South East Europe, has confirmed some rumors about the Dacia Bigster model. The proportions of the production version of the Bigster will be “very, very close” to those of the concept. On the other hand, according to the same Source, the production version will not accommodate the illuminated grille of the concept.

The 2025 Dacia Bigster will be based on the CMF-B platform and will be powered by Renault’s E-Tech hybrid powertrain. The Bigster will be an aggressive and robust SUV available in a 4×4 version (optional), as declared by Le Vot, Director of the Romanian brand. The offer would also include an entry-level LPG bi-fuel engine, as well as a 1.2 130 hp MHEV petrol version. However, Dacia does not seem ready to offer a 100% electric version of the Bigster, at least not for the moment.

Bigster low-cost or not?

According to the CEO of the Romanian brand Denis Le Vot, an SUV of this size will have to cost an average of €40,000, an estimate based on the level of equipment required on recent vehicles, for a minimum of comfort, better safety and to achieve emissions targets. Nevertheless, the policy of the low-cost brand is very clear, according to Le Vot, the Bigster will not have equipment that is not necessary, and Dacia does not intend to produce more expensive plug-in hybrids, in order to continue to offer vehicles at competitive prices, and therefore the Dacia Bigster will be offered much cheaper!

On the other hand, the Dacia Bigster, presented in concept form at the beginning of last year, is 4.6 meters long, which is roughly equivalent to the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Nevertheless, the teaser images, which we have already published, claim that the Bigster is intended to compete with more compact models, like the T-Roc, with a price starting at around €30,000.

By way of conclusion, given the prices that are constantly increasing, the Duster 3, the current version of which is sold from 16990, will see its price climb to 20,000 euros at the entry level. Consequently, the price of the new Bigster – which will be positioned at the top of the offer – would exceed 25,000 euros at entry level.
