When a new villain, Cyrus, threatens the future of Granite City, Sam must persuade Joe Smith to return to his superhero past and return to save the day. But is Joe who Sam thinks he is? We’re going to dive into this major reveal at the end of The Samaritan to explain everything.

The Samaritan ending explained

After a fight with Joe, Cyrus realizes he is the legendary hero of the past. Cyrus knows about Sam and Joe’s connection and kidnaps the child to lure the former superhero away. After learning that Cyrus has kidnapped Sam, Joe arrives at the factory to confront Cyrus. However, Joe is overpowered by Cyrus, who uses Nemesis’ hammer.

Joe relents and eventually confesses the truth about that fateful night years ago. Flashbacks reveal that Joe was about to fall into the fire during his fight with Nemesis and die. However, The Samaritan showed sympathy for his brother and saved him. However, this gesture cost the life of the Samaritan. Therefore, the man we know as Joe is the evil brother, Nemesis, not the superhero brother, Samaritan.

Nevertheless, during his fight against Cyrus, Joe is given the opportunity to undo his past mistakes. His transformation into a hero begins after he defeats Cyrus and stops the villain from completing the evil plan Joe formulated years before. In the end, Cyrus is defeated and Joe saves Sam’s life.

To the end of The Samaritan, Joe saves the town but sneaks away as the police approach. Sam is approached by reporters who ask him about the mysterious figure who saved him and the town. While Sam is given the opportunity to reveal the truth about Joe’s identity and his nemesis past, he chooses not to.

The end of The Samaritan implies that Joe will attempt to fulfill Samaritan duties and return to crime-fighting after his experience with Sam. Before disappearing, Joe tells Sam that good and evil exist within the same person, thus reiterating the idea that morality is subjective.

Therefore, the end of The Samaritan seems to indicate that Joe is ready to become the superhero Samaritan and that he will carry on his brother’s legacy. The film therefore ends on an exciting note, as it offers Joe catharsis over his own actions and gives him a hopeful future, a second chance at being a hero.
