Bad injury at Max Franz! Immediately after moving to the Hirscher team, the ÖSV star had to end his season prematurely.
The injury devil does not stop at the new “Van Deer – Red Bull” team.
For ÖSV star Max Franz, the ski season is over before it has even started. The 33-year-old fell badly on Sunday while training at Copper Mountain in the US state of Colorado. Franz broke both his legs.
It hit his right leg particularly hard, where he sustained a complicated lower leg fracture. The left lower leg sustained an open fracture.

“Max started the swing too tightly in a double left turn, then caught his upper body in the goal and then fell. It’s a shame because he has big plans for this season with his new outfitter. It’s for our speed team an enormous weakness. I wish Max that he comes back as soon as possible”, says Marko Pfeifer, the sports director of the alpine skiing men’s team.
The 33-year-old speed specialist was picked up by Dr. Randy Viola (US Ski Team Doctor) operated on both legs.
New to the Hirscher team
Franz switched from Fischer to Augment just this summer. The new ski brand should give the speed specialist new impetus. The Carinthian thus joined Marcel Hirscher’s team, who swallowed Augment with his “Van Deer – Red Bull” team. Also to be able to catch athletes from the Austria Ski Pool like Franz.
Hirscher’s newly founded ski brand “Van Deer” is not yet in the Austria Ski Pool because it must have been active in the youth sector for at least two years. However, Augment is now part of the same team and makes its skis in the same place as “Van Deer”.
But Franz will have to wait at least a year for his first World Cup ride for Van Deer.
