The four Puerto Ricans living in New York who lost their lives in a traffic accident last night traveled to Puerto Rico a week ago to bury a relative who was born in San Sebastián.

The tragedy occurred at 8:35 p.m. at kilometer 17.7 of the PR-111 highway in San Sebastián, while Aníbal González, 70, was traveling in a rented white Hyundai Accent car from 2022, in the direction of Moca. and made an improper turn to the left impacting a 2005 white Ford Mustang vehicle from the right side, which was driven by Félix Quiñones Pérez, 21 years old. The young man was going his own way.

The mayor of San Sebastián, Javier Jiménez, indicated that the pepinians had been on the island since August 11 and had rented a vehicle to carry out the procedures to bury their loved one. Among the victims was the daughter of one of the dead septuagenarians. The deceased person, who had asked that when he died he be buried in his hometown, was the husband of one of the passengers in the back.

“They were people who lived outside of Puerto Rico almost all their lives and according to what they inform me, one of the husbands of one of the passengers who died asked to be buried in Puerto Rico and they came to bury them in Puerto Rico. They were from San Sebastián, but their children and closest relatives had lived in the United States all their lives,” Jiménez said in a telephone interview.

Jiménez deeply regretted the incident that has left the country dismayed.

“It is very unfortunate a tragedy like these people who come to carry out an operation in Puerto Rico, which is a difficult tragedy, which was to bury a person as close as a relative or a husband, they also find themselves in the situation that they also have to leave in such a tragic way. The fragility of life in which many times none of us think”, exclaimed the municipal executive.

Front passenger Maria Hold, 50, of Rochester, New York, who was the daughter of one of the two passengers in the back, died in the crash.

The other two victims are Milagros Soto and the passenger on the left side Ana A. González, both 72 years old and residents of Rochester, New York. The latter was ejected to the pavement after the impact.

According to the Quiñones Pérez Highway Patrol Bureau, he was transported to the San Carlos hospital in Moca, where blood samples were taken, as is required in these investigations. His condition is stable as the injuries he received are minor.

Agent Carlos Hernández, assigned to the Aguadilla Highway Patrol Division, investigated the accident together with prosecutor Rufino Jiménez, who gave instructions for both vehicles to be seized for expert purposes.
