Prince William, 40, today mourned the death of a close friend who died in a plane crash.
Yesterday, pilot Mark Jenkins was flying over Tsavo National Park, Kenya, along with his son, Peter, when the aircraft crashed. The age of the victims was not disclosed by the international press.
According to the Daily Mail, Jenkins worked for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an African NGO that rescues orphaned elephants and protects the mammals from poachers.
In a post on the Kensington Palace profile, William sent condolences to his friend’s family.
“Yesterday, I lost a friend who has dedicated his life to protecting wild animals in one of East Africa’s most renowned parks. Mark Jenkins and his son, Peter, tragically died on a flight over Tsavo National Park while on an air patrol “, he wrote.
“Tonight, I am thinking of Mark’s wife, family and colleagues, who sadly lost a man we all loved and admired,” he added.
The Frankfurt Zoological Society, where Jenkins worked in the past, also mourned the pilot’s death on their official website.
“Those of us who worked with him will remember his determination, thoughtfulness, energy, mischievous smile and deep love for wildlife,” the statement said.
