The world bids the last farewell to Skin this Tuesday (03). After a wake lasting 24 hours without interruption and the presence of family members, heads of state, and thousands of fans, the ex-player’s burial takes place.
The body of the King of Football will be in the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial, in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The space was named by the Guinness Book as the tallest vertical cemetery in the world.
How is the cemetery where Pelé will be buried?
Pelé bought a place at the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial in July 2003, when he was 62 years old.
The 14-story building was designed by Argentine businessman Pepe Altstutwho died in 2021 and was a friend of the King.
“The person doesn’t feel depressed, it doesn’t even look like a cemetery”, said Pelé in an interview with Jornal A Tribuna, in 2003, also saying that the place transmits “spiritual peace and tranquility”.
Also buried there are his father, dondinhowho died in 1996, his brother, Jair Arantes do Nascimento, the zocawho died in 2020, in addition to Antonio Wilson Honório, the Coutinhostrike partner at the legendary Santos, twice world champion in 1962 and 1963, who passed away in 2019.
While Pelé’s relatives are on the ninth floor of the building, he will be buried on the first floor of the site.
Is Pele’s coffin made of gold?
Even before Pelé’s death, images of a golden coffin where the King would supposedly be buried went viral on social networks.
The advisory of the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial, however, denied to Estadão the existence of this tomb.
Will the public be able to visit Pelé?
The ex-player’s burial will be restricted to his family members, but the idea is that the Memorial becomes tourist attraction of Santos.
It will open to the public for tours days after the ceremony. Dates, however, have not yet been set by management.
