Greta receives an honorary doctorate in THEOLOGY from the University of Helsinki

Greta Thunberg receives an honorary doctorate in theology in Helsinki. You read it, you reread it, and then you realize that the world has definitely changed, and that old dividing lines between university disciplines no longer apply. Of course, an honorary doctorate is something that comes with it, you can just become an honorary doctor without having made any scientific achievements, you are there for decoration, for decoration, to give the faculty a little extra color, but it it is apparently no longer important at all whether what you represent has any relation whatsoever to what that faculty stands for. That’s what I see happening here, an activist becoming an honorary doctor at a theological college. Tell me what the relationship is between activism and theology, tell me how crooked you have to bend the one to make it fit the other.
I can only explain it by assuming that those theologians there in Helsinki are not theologians, not religious scholars, but salvationists, penitents, doomsday prophets, people who think they are pioneers, leaders, pastors, preachers. That is a mistake made these days by many if not most people who stay at humanities faculties, that they are not primarily scientists but do-gooders and that science should be at the service of that improvement. Just as many artists, especially those who live on subsidies, also believe that their artmaking is in the service of improving the world, and that the latter is actually their calling.
Then I get it, then Thunberg is one of theirs, one of the gurus, a super guru with whom they are only too happy to associate. Then Thunberg turns their faculty into an even holier place than it already was, a place where worship services are held, where rituals are performed, where there is collective weeping and tears are collected like holy water.
Greta Thunberg honorary doctor. You would spontaneously want to hand in your doctor’s degree if you had obtained your doctorate at that faculty.
